Medical Care for Rescue Dogs in Upperco, Maryland

Most of our dogs arrive needing a vet before anything else. Medical care is the biggest single cost of rescue, and the part Upperco neighbors help with most directly.

What medical care covers

Every dog in our program gets an exam, vaccines and parasite treatment, then diagnostics, surgery and medication as needed. Some dogs need a plan for an ongoing condition that will last the rest of their lives.

Some cases are serious. Ricky, also called Ricochet, was living on the streets of Texas with a gunshot wound through his shoulder when he was rescued. Care starts with whatever the body needs first.

This is care for dogs in our program. Petey’s Promise is not a veterinary clinic and can’t treat pets for the public.

Helping from Upperco

Sponsorship and monthly gifts are what keep vet appointments on the calendar. Neighbors can also help by driving a dog to an appointment when we’re short on hands.

If your own pet needs care, please contact your regular veterinarian or an emergency animal hospital.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Petey’s Promise?

Petey’s Promise is a dog rescue and sanctuary effort growing out of Lyndsey Morgan’s rescue work with Obedient BLUE. It helps homeless, abandoned, medically or behaviorally challenged, senior and sanctuary dogs get food, veterinary care, rehabilitation, training, shelter and long-term support. Read our mission.

Can I surrender a dog?

We can’t promise intake. Space, resources and each dog’s needs determine what we can take on. Please contact us with details about the dog and your situation, or call (443) 377-6919, and we’ll respond as soon as we can.

Can I volunteer?

Volunteer roles are still being organized. Send a volunteer inquiry and we’ll be in touch as opportunities open up. Submitting an inquiry doesn’t guarantee a position.

Can I donate supplies?

Yes. Food, treats, beds, cots, crates, leashes, collars, cleaning supplies, towels, blankets, enrichment items and training equipment are always useful. See Donate Supplies.
