Adoption

Adoptable Dogs

These dogs have been evaluated, cared for and worked with, and they’re ready for families of their own. We would rather wait for the right home than rush a placement.

Ready for their families

The process

How adoption works

Every dog is matched carefully. Tell us about your household, your other pets and your experience, and we’ll be honest about which dog fits and which doesn’t.

Adoption eligibility, health information and availability can change at any time. A dog listed today may already have an application in progress.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a sanctuary dog?

A sanctuary dog stays in permanent or long-term care because traditional adoption would not be safe or appropriate for them, often because of medical needs, age, behavior history, bite history or special handling requirements. Sanctuary is a commitment to give them a good life anyway. Learn about sanctuary care.

Why can’t every dog be adopted?

Some dogs have ongoing medical conditions, a bite history, special handling needs or simply need more time. Placing them in a home that can’t meet those needs would put the dog and the family at risk. For these dogs, a stable sanctuary home is the safest, kindest option.

Can I sponsor a specific dog?

Yes. When you sponsor, you can choose a specific dog or support the rescue wherever the need is greatest.

Can I adopt a dog?

Only dogs specifically listed as adoptable are available for adoption. Sanctuary residents are not.
