Veterinary Care Comes First

Rescue dogs often arrive with injuries, infections or conditions that have gone untreated for a long time. Getting them proper veterinary care is the first step to everything else.

Every dog’s needs are different. These are the kinds of care rescue and sanctuary dogs may need.

Privacy

We protect each dog’s medical details

We share general information about the kinds of care our dogs receive, but we don’t publish any individual dog’s private medical information, including Petey’s, without approval. When a dog’s medical story is shared, it will appear in their story or on their profile.

Ricky, for example, survived a gunshot wound through the shoulder before his rescue. Read Ricky’s story.

Why medical costs add up

A single emergency surgery can cost more than months of food. Chronic conditions in sanctuary dogs mean medication and checkups for life. Recurring support is what makes it possible to say yes to treatment when a dog needs it.

Give Monthly

Help a dog get the care they need

Gold Paw supporters ($50/month) help support medical, nutritional and rehabilitation expenses.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Petey’s Promise?

Petey’s Promise is a dog rescue and sanctuary effort growing out of Lyndsey Morgan’s rescue work with Obedient BLUE. It helps homeless, abandoned, medically or behaviorally challenged, senior and sanctuary dogs get food, veterinary care, rehabilitation, training, shelter and long-term support. Read our mission.

Where does my sponsorship money go?

Sponsorships support Petey’s Promise’s overall rescue and sanctuary work: veterinary care, food, medication, training and rehabilitation, safe housing, transportation, enrichment and emergency treatment. Funds may be used where the need is greatest.

Does sponsoring a dog cover all of that dog’s expenses?

No. Sponsorship contributes toward overall rescue and sanctuary expenses. It does not necessarily mean you are covering a particular dog’s complete costs.

What is a sanctuary dog?

A sanctuary dog stays in permanent or long-term care because traditional adoption would not be safe or appropriate for them, often because of medical needs, age, behavior history, bite history or special handling requirements. Sanctuary is a commitment to give them a good life anyway. Learn about sanctuary care.
