This website shares information about Petey’s Promise, a dog rescue and sanctuary effort in Upperco, Maryland, and the dogs in its care. Petey’s Promise is in the process of establishing its formal nonprofit structure; see Organization Status.
Information about dogs can change
Information about each dog, including adoption eligibility, sanctuary status, medical status, behavior, age, breed and availability, is provided in good faith and may change at any time without notice. A dog shown as adoptable may already have an adoption in progress, and details may be updated as we learn more about a dog. Nothing on this site guarantees that a particular dog is available or suitable for your home.
Adoption, intake and volunteering
Submitting an inquiry does not create any obligation for Petey’s Promise to approve an adoption, accept a dog into care or offer a volunteer role. All decisions are made case by case, with the safety and wellbeing of the dogs and people involved as the first priority.
Sponsorship and gifts
Sponsorship contributions support Petey’s Promise’s overall rescue and sanctuary mission and may be used where the need is greatest. Sponsoring a dog does not necessarily mean the sponsor is covering that dog’s complete expenses, and it doesn’t create any ownership or decision-making rights over a dog. Gifts are not tax deductible at this time. This website does not currently process payments.

What is Petey’s Promise?
Petey’s Promise is a dog rescue and sanctuary effort growing out of Lyndsey Morgan’s rescue work with Obedient BLUE. It helps homeless, abandoned, medically or behaviorally challenged, senior and sanctuary dogs get food, veterinary care, rehabilitation, training, shelter and long-term support. Read our mission.
What is a sanctuary dog?
A sanctuary dog stays in permanent or long-term care because traditional adoption would not be safe or appropriate for them, often because of medical needs, age, behavior history, bite history or special handling requirements. Sanctuary is a commitment to give them a good life anyway. Learn about sanctuary care.
Can I sponsor a specific dog?
Yes. When you sponsor, you can choose a specific dog or support the rescue wherever the need is greatest.
Is Petey’s Promise a nonprofit?
