Dog Rescue Near Hampstead, Maryland
From Hampstead, Petey’s Promise is a short drive down Hanover Pike in Upperco. We’re a small rescue focused on the dogs other groups can’t take: the injured, the overlooked and the out of time.
How rescue works for Hampstead dogs
A dog brought in from Hampstead follows the same path as every dog in our care. First comes intake and immediate needs, then a veterinary evaluation, then a behavioral evaluation once they’ve settled. After that it’s rehabilitation, and then adoption into the right home or a permanent place in sanctuary.
The dogs stay in Upperco throughout, close enough that Hampstead neighbors who bring a dog to us can follow along and sometimes help.
Capacity is limited, so we can’t promise intake for every dog. Every message gets an honest answer.
Found a stray in Hampstead?
Hampstead is in Carroll County. Call the Humane Society of Carroll County first. As the county’s shelter and animal control provider, they can scan for a microchip and match the dog with a worried owner.
If the dog needs more than a shelter stay, contact us with photos and anything you know about their history.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Petey’s Promise?
Petey’s Promise is a dog rescue and sanctuary effort growing out of Lyndsey Morgan’s rescue work with Obedient BLUE. It helps homeless, abandoned, medically or behaviorally challenged, senior and sanctuary dogs get food, veterinary care, rehabilitation, training, shelter and long-term support. Read our mission.
Can I surrender a dog?
We can’t promise intake. Space, resources and each dog’s needs determine what we can take on. Please contact us with details about the dog and your situation, or call (443) 377-6919, and we’ll respond as soon as we can.
Can I adopt a dog?
Only dogs specifically listed as adoptable are available for adoption. Sanctuary residents are not.
Where does my sponsorship money go?
Sponsorships support Petey’s Promise’s overall rescue and sanctuary work: veterinary care, food, medication, training and rehabilitation, safe housing, transportation, enrichment and emergency treatment. Funds may be used where the need is greatest.
